So today is Johnny Depp's 57th Birthday! Yes he is 57! Born in Kentucky USA on 9th June 1963! Johnny Depp's first movie appearance was in 1984, he would play Glen Lantz in A Nightmare on Elm Street! What a movie to start your career? The movie alone and "Freddy" have become household names, along with the Freddy actor, Robert Englund. This wasn't his one and only appearance in the movie franchise as in 1991's Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare he would appear The Guy on TV (Oprah Noodlemantra) (did you miss that one? Go check i am right), he certainly moved on in the later part of the 80's and early 90's. His filmography is little short of a "what film can i watch that is good or better" list, boasting titles like Platoon in that late 80's period before before taking on the persona that is Edward Scissorhands, with Winona Ryder and Dianne Wiest, Benny & Joon with Julianne Moore and Mary Stuart Masterson, and my favourite of Johnny's from that period, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, where he stars alongside 19 year old Leonardo DiCaprio, Juliette Lewis and Mary Steenburgen, to name a few. The mid to late 90's also bought Johnny success where he played Donnie in Donnie Brasco, alongside Al Pacino, Raoul Duke in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas with co-stars of Benicio Del Toro and Tobey Maguire, and Tim Burton's Classic for 1999, Sleepy Hollow, where he played Ichabod Crane which also boasts names like Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson and Michael Gambon. The noughties was also a time of great movies from Johnny Depp, Blow, in which he played George Jung, alongside Penelope Cruz, playing Sands in Once Upon A Time In Mexico with Antonio Banderas, William Defoe, and Salma Hayek. This time would also be the time that Johnny would find his recurring role, 2003 and Jack Sparrow would be taken to our hearts in Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. We all know the way that role went from there. While Jack Sparrow was shipwreaked somewhere obscure (i mean while the next film was written), Johnny would again find other movie roles for our pleasure Sir James Matthew Barrie in Finding Neverland, Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd opposite to Helena Bonham Carter in 2007's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. 2010's would roll in and yet again Johnny is there at the front of the line of very good movies He would play Mad Hatter in Alice In Wonderland, Frank Tupelo in The Tourist, Tonto in 2013 opposite Armie Hammer and Mortecai in the movie of the same name. In 2015 i went to the movies to watch the next movie and an unrecognisable actor would play James 'Whitey' Bulger in Black Mass, Johnny Depp had such a transformation, it was scary. Johnny would return as Hatter Tarrent Hightopp in Alice Through The Looking Glass, before again finding a recurring character, this time in the J.K. Rowling series of movies, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, where he would become Grindelwald. The late 2010's would host Johnny Depp in the Agatha Christie remake of Murder on The Orient Express, as the rather odd Edward Rachett, Playing Richard in The Professor and City Of Lies where he plays Russell Poole opposite Forest Whitaker.
As you can see a rather impressive list of movies, well the diversity, that is Johnny Depp doesn't stop there. He has that many movies that he plays such a small role in, blink and you will miss him moments. These movies include Chocolat, where he is Roux, Imaginarium Tony 1 in The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, Officer Tom Hanson in 21 Jump Street (reviving the role he played in the late 80's TV shoe of the same name), and Chick Purchase in London Fields.
As with most actors or actresses of the modern day, a voice of an animated character is almost a necessity, Johnny is no exception giving voices to Victor Van Dort in Corpse Bride, Rango and Lars in Rango and most recently in Sherlock Gnomes, he voices Sherlock. TV is also an avenue that hasn't past him by either. As you can see he had a role in the TV Series 21 Jump Street and would appear in 82 episodes, but its the pop in visits that seem to set him aside to anyone else. A bit like the bit part roles that i have mentioned already, Johnny does this on TV Shows too, showing up in 1 episode, 1 scene, this include The Vicar Of Dibley, The Fast Show, Life's Too Short, and also voicing in King Of The Hill, SpongeBob SquarePants and Family Guy.
Johnny's love life is full of very attractive famous women, after divorcing first wife Lori Anne Allison (who was a makeup artist) in 1985 after a 2 year marriage, was engaged to Jennifer Grey and Sherilyn Fenn in the late 80's, and then proposing to Winona Ryder in 1990, after being together 1 year. Then a 4 year relationship with English supermodel, Kate Moss, Johnny would then begin a 14 year relationship with French Actress and singer, Vanessa Paradis, whom he has 2 children with. Lily-Rose Depp is 21 (and following her parents into moves) and John "Jack" Depp III is 18. In 2012 Johnny and Vanessa announced they were separated, Johnny would then start a relation with actress and model, Amber Heard. They were married in 2015, but that came to a messy end just over a year later.
Johnny has been addicted to drugs and alcohol as well as stating, he started smoking at the age of 12. He has been arrested 3 times (to my knowledge), and been sued on countless occasions
He is also very apt at other parts of this industry too, he is a writer, director, producer and also is also a bit of a musician too, but it looks as though the path he is taking more and more is the producer role, as i write this he is linked with 22 movies in the future as a producer, that doesn't say he will not be appearing on the silver screen or a TV set near you, oh no.
