This is the DC Comics shared universe that centre on superhero movies. The DCEU (Detective Comic Extended Universe) began in 2013, yes! Only 7 years ago. Now dont get this confused with the standard DC Universe, this one one has the characters crossing over into other "superheroes" movies, like a collaboration, whereas the DC Universe just centred on the one specific character.
So where did this start, well the first was started with a Superman Reboot, Man Of Steel when Henry Cavill would do the red and blue and disguise as Clark Kent to the population of Metropolis. This film got a mixed reaction, it was a great visual, but did lack the character building we need in an origin story. Yes, we all know how Superman/Clark/Kal-El became to Earth from previous Superman films and boxsets/series. The issue is, this was the start of a new chapter, new beginnings and should have set the scene.
Next would come another Zack Snyder movie, This time we'd see the introduction of Ben Affleck donning the the all black of Batman, Henry Cavill also stars in the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. You do get to meet other characters who i won't name just in case you haven't seen it and want the element of surprise. Again this one has got a mixed reaction from the movie critics, again, loving the visual and acting performances, but the pace and story-line was not what we should expect from a massive movie contributor of DC Comics.
This leads us to the third installment and a complete collaboration Suicide Squad was released later in the same year, 2016. This bought together a group of "super-villians" to fight for the same cause. So We have
Deadshot - Will Smith
Joker - Jared Leto
Harley Quinn - Margot Robbie
Captain Boomerang - Jai Courtney
El Diablo - Jay Hernandez
Killer Croc - Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Slipnot - Adam Beach
They are all bought together to form Task Force X. All with a nanite chip in their neck, if they chose to try to escape. Again, even though it was 2016, tenth biggest grossing film, mixed reviews again. Praise for the cast and criticism for the direction (A pattern is starting to appear).
Next up we have Gal Gadot appearing in her movie of Wonder Woman, at last DC seem to be getting it together and bringing us a great movie. Its an Origin story with direction, great cast members and as seems to be a usual now, get visuals. Patty Jenkins (who directed it) has found the secret formula. This movie is the highest grossing movie by a solo female director.
The fifth installment comes in another collaboration but this one of the "superhero" kind. Justice League will team together Batman (Ben Afflick), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in 2017. Again as all these films you get to see more that what are listed, but for the reason of none spoilers, i will refrain from divulging. Yet again DC return to mixed reviews, Why when they seem to get the right actors in place, do they let them down, this one was critised for the plot, writing and the over use of CGI
So Aquaman (Jason Momoa) gets his own movie in the next in the series in 2018. DC, back to an Origin movie and again this one is a hit. It is a fun, action packed, well made, well directed movies! DC keep this formula please! This is the highest grossing movie DC has EVER done, surpassing (My personal Favourite) The Dark Knight Rises. It is also the 5th highest grossing movie of 2018.
In 2019 we see a new character to the series, Zachary Levi is Shazam! So this is a fun filled movie that was light hearted and very well made. Excellent performances especially Zachary Levi.
Which brings us to 2020's entry. Birds of Prey (add "and the Fantabulous Emancipation Of Harley Quinn" to give it it's full title). So Harley Quinn gets her own movie, this is reward from one of the only ones who got good reviews for Suicide Squad. This one all in all got it right. Margot Robbie has got this character down to a fine art and well directed.
So where next? What do we expect? Well below i have added the movie that are confirmed and also the dates that now show for these movies
